The product group covers windows, balcony doors and exterior doors.

The aim of Nordic Ecolabelling criteria is to stimulate the use of energy-efficient windows and exterior doors that have also been manufactured in a way that provides a low environmental impact.

Nordic Swan Ecolabelled windows and exterior doors:

  • Have a low climate impact through low energy losses.
  • Have low environmental impact through tough environmental requirements on primary materials and the production process.
  • Offer superior function and a long service life
  • Are sold with good fitting and care instructions.

    Annual licence fee: The annual licence fee for the Nordic Swan Ecolabelled products is based on their turnover in the Nordic countries.

    0.3% of turnover + VAT from 0 – 30 million EUR 
    0.05% of turnover + VAT > 30 million EUR
    Minimum fee for Nordic region 2 167 EUR + VAT per year per product group
    Maximum fee for Nordic region No maximum fee

    Fees for sale outside the Nordic region

    * When both the applicant and the manufacturer are micro-enterprises, the fee is reduced by 50%. A micro-enterprise is in this context defined as an enterprise with less than 10 employees and an annual turnover (of both ecolabelled and not ecolabelled products) below 2 million EUR.

    ** Where audits requires more than one day away from the office including travelling, Nordic Ecolabelling can invoice an additional fee of 1 083 EUR per extra day. Other extraordinary costs induced by the audit can also be invoiced the applicant.

    *** As for an extension of or amendments to a licence, time consumed in connection with the review process will be invoiced according to the extent of the required task. We make a distinction between entirely administrative tasks that last less than 1 hour, and all other tasks that last between 1 and 4 hours, between 4 and 8 hours and more than 8 hours.

    The recipient is liable for the VAT according to article 56 of the Council Directive 2006/112/EC.

    4.15 ⇛ 4.16: Prolongation of the criteria

    On February 20, 2024 Nordic Ecolabelling decided to prolong the criteria with 9 months. The new version is called 4.16 and is valid until the December 31, 2025. 

    4.14 ⇛ 4.15: Prolongation of the criteria

    On November 29, 2022 Nordic Ecolabelling decided to prolong the criteria with 24 months. The new version is called 4.15 and is valid until the March 31, 2025. 

    4.13 ⇛ 4.14: Adjustment of the criteria

    Adjustment to requirements O2 and O3 so that both sizes of windows/doors specified in standard EN 14351-1 can be used for the product's U-value, solar energy transmittance and daylight transmittance. The new version is called 4.14 and is valid until 31 March 2023.

    4.12 ⇛ 4.13: Adjustment of the criteria

    The time limitation in the exception for propiconazole in wood preservatives has been removed. The new version, 4.13, is valid until 31 March 2023.

    4.11 ⇛ 4.12: Adjustment of the criteria

    Adjustment regarding exemptions for TiO2 in requirements O14 and O 15 has been made. In addition, the wood requirements have been updated. The new version, 4.12, is valid until 31 March 2023.

    4.10 ⇛ 4.11: Adjustment of the criteria

    Adjustment for elevated limit value (<1000 ppm) for D4, D5 and D6 as a pollution have been made. The new version, 4.11, is valid until 31 March 2023.

    4.9 ⇛ 4.10: Alteration and prolongation of the validity of the criteria

    Adjustments have been made for the following:

    • Harmonization of test requirements regarding. durable wood.
    • Requirement O14 exception for isosate-based adhesives.
    • Time-limited exception for the biocide propiconazole and "reproductive toxic 1B".
    • Permission of alumina in nanoform in powder coating for window frames

    In addition, the requirements have been prolonged by 12 months. The new version, 4.10, is valid to 31 March 2023.

    4.8 ⇛ 4.9: Alteration of the criteria

    Exceptions in the chemical requirements for formaldehyde (requirement O15) and nanoparticles (requirement O17) have been made. The new version, 4.9, is valid until 31 March 2022.

    4.7 ⇛ 4.8: Prolongation of the criteria

    It was decided to prolong the criteria with 24 months until 31 March 2020. The new version is 4.4.

    4.6 ⇛ 4.7: Alteration of the criteria

    • O5 Windows and exterior doors of non-renewable materials: Alteration relating to aluminium.

    The new version, 4.7, is valid until 31 mars 2021.

    4.5 ⇛ 4.6: Prolongation of the criteria

    On the 9 October 2017 Nordic Ecolabelling’s Criteria Group decided to remove O32 Take-back system. 
    On the 14 December 2017 Nordic Ecolabelling’s Criteria Group decided to prolong the criteria with 12 months until the 31 March 2021
    The new version is 4.6.

    4.4 ⇛ 4.5: Alteration of the criteria

    It was decided to introduce the new requirements on forestry. Applicants can choose to either fulfil the requirements on wood introduced in version 4.0 (part A) or the new wood requirements listed in part B.
    The new version is 4.5.

    4.3 ⇛ 4.4: Prolongation of the criteria

    It was decided to prolong the criteria with 24 months until 31 March 2020. The new version is 4.4.

    4.2 ⇛ 4.3: Alteration of the criteria

    Adjustments have been made in requirements O14 and O15 where exemptions for polyurethane adhesives containing methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) classified Carc 2 H351 were introduced. The new version, 4.3, is valid until March 31st 2018.

    4.1 ⇛ 4.2: Alteration of the criteria

    • O2–O4: Adjustments regarding verifying methods were introduced.
    • O2: The figures for highest acceptable U-values were clarified.
    • O6–O8 + chemical requirements: Minor text adjustments were made in the requirements.

    The new version, 4.2, is valid until March 31st 2018.

    4.0 ⇛ 4.1: Alteration of the criteria

    • O16: An exemption for non-bioaccumulative biocides and preservatives were added to the requirement.
    • O33: The requirement regarding marketing was removed.

    The new version, 4.1, is valid until March 31st, 2018.

    4.0: New version of the criteria

    On March 19th the Nordic Ecolabelling board decided on new updated criteria for Nordic Ecolabelled windows and exterior doors. The new version, 4.0, is valid until March 31st 2018.
