Public consultation on Candles
December 5, 2025 – February 12, 2026
During the consultation period, Nordic Ecolabelling gives you the opportunity to comment on our proposal for new criteria for Candles.
Nordic Ecolabelling are revising the requirements for Candles.
Product types that are covered are candles and oil candles made up of one or more wicks surrounded by a solid or liquid material. Taper candles, pillar and ball candles, tea light candles, outdoor candles and oil candles can be certified. Scented or aromatherapeutic candles cannot be certified.
You are welcome to respond to the proposal no later than February 12, 2026.

A compilation of the consultation responses, with answers from Nordic Ecolabelling and the names of the responding organisations, will be published on the Nordic Swan Ecolabel web page.
Most important issues we particularly want comments on
- Chemical requirement in general
- Surface treatment of containers is included in the chemical requirements
- Removal of exemption for paraffin from the classification requirements
- Stricter limit for content of organic solvents
- Soot index for outdoor candles
- Fire safety for containers
