Public consultation on Printed companies and printed matter

During the consultation period, Nordic Ecolabelling gives you the opportunity to comment on our proposal for new criteria for Printed companies and printed matter.
Nordic Ecolabelling are revising the requirements for Printing companies and printed matter. You are welcome to respond to the proposal no later than 9th October 2026.
The product group encompasses printing companies and printed matter. Printing is a process in which substrates are transformed into finished products, including both the application of print and subsequent finishing or converting. Printed matter includes traditional physical media such as newspapers, magazines to marketing materials, banners, signages, envelopes, stationery and office supply, labels and paper-based e-commers-/post-/ transport packaging.

Most important issues
- Packaging printing companies – areas of production included in the criteria. Please also comment on the requirement that at least 50% of the turnover must come from paper printed matter (requirement O1).
- The minimum required share of Ecolabelled paper/paper assed by Nordic Ecolabelling is proposed to be increased from 60% to 70% (requirement O6).
- New requirement for rigid substrates with good recycling properties (requirement O7).
- Energy use. The threshold values have been tightened for some of the printing technologies. Please also share your experience with the current requirement (energy use per tonne substrate) and provide any suggestions for how energy use should be addressed in the criteria (requirement O13).
- The point requirements and point structure has been changed and simplified (point requirements P1 to P9 and requirement O20).
