Public consultation on Textile floor coverings and rugs/mats

During the consultation period, Nordic Ecolabelling gives you the opportunity to comment on our proposal for new criteria for Textile floor coverings and rugs/mats.
Nordic Ecolabelling are creating a new generation for Textile floor coverings and rugs/mats.
Product types that are covered are carpets for indoor use intended to be placed on the floor. Both products fastened to the floor and loose laid products are included and both wall-to-wall carpets and carpets covering only parts of a floor. The upper side of the product must consist of at least 80% by weight of textile fibres.
You are welcome to respond to the proposal no later than 15 August, 2025.

A compilation of the consultation responses, with answers from Nordic Ecolabelling and the names of the responding organisations, will be published on the Nordic Swan Ecolabel web page.
Most important issues
- high share of renewable and/or recycled materials.
- strict environmental and health requirements for chemicals used in production. Bitumen is prohibited
- strict limits for emissions to indoor air.
- requirements for material recycling through take-back systems and design for separation to improve circular economy.
- durability testing according to specific use classes for commercial or domestic use to offer a long service life.
- social and ethical requirements are introduced.
