Nordic Swan Ecolabel industrial cleaning and degreasing agents meet ambitious environmental requirements from a holistic life cycle perspective. This means that they are amongst the environmentally best in their category.

Nordic Swan Ecolabel industrial cleaning and degreasing agents:

  • Effectively remove oil, grease, dirt, or graffiti paint.
  • Meet strict environmental requirements for chemicals, focusing on ecotoxicity, bioaccumulation and degradability.
  • Meet strict health requirements for chemicals, including a ban on adding substances classified to cause cancer, toxic to reproduction or to potentially damage genetic material. Also identified or potential endocrine disruptors on up-to-date lists from EU and national authorities or by classification are banned.
  • Meet strict limits on volatile organic compounds (VOC) to minimise the contribution to ground-level ozone formation.

The product group includes products that are primarily intended to remove soiling such as oil residues, wax, grease, dust, graffiti paints and other types of dirt from surfaces, machine parts, tools and pipe systems made of materials like steel, aluminium, concrete and plastic. The products must be exclusively intended for professional use within industrial settings.

    Annual licence fee

    The licence fee for the Nordic Swan Ecolabelled products is based on their turnover in the Nordic region.

    Up to 52.324 million EUR. 0,5% of the products' turnover
    More than 52.324 million EUR. 0,05% of the products' turnover
    Minimum fee in the Nordic region 2 267 EUR per year.
    Fixed fee applicable to turnover outside the Nordic region 2 267 EUR per year for turnover exceeding 300 000 EUR.

    Fee for extension / change of licence

    Fixed fee that is charged depending on how long the work takes.

    Up to 4 hours 424 EUR
    4-8 hours 849 EUR
    8 or more hours 1 699 EUR

    Fee for on-site inspections

    One on-site visit within the Nordic region is included in the application for a new or renewed licence.

    Minimum fee in the Nordic region 2 232 EUR per year.
    Fixed fee applicable to turnover outside the Nordic region 2 232 EUR per year for turnover exceeding 300 000 EUR.

    4.0: New criteria generation

    The new revised criteria were adopted 12 September 2025. They are valid until 28 February 2030.

    3.5 ⇛ 3.6: Adjustment of the criteria 

    On 17 June 2025, Nordic Ecolabelling decided to prolong the validity of the criteria to the 31 October 2026. On 24 June 2025, Nordic Ecolabelling decided to include a specific CDV limit value for graffiti removers. The new version is called 3.6.

    3.4 ⇛ 3.5: Adjustment of the criteria 

    On 13 August 2024, Nordic Ecolabelling decided to allow the IFS standard Household and Personal Care as an alternative to ISO 9001 (Appendix 4 and 5). The new version is called 3.5.

    3.3 ⇛ 3.4 Prolongation of the validity of the criteria

    The period of validity of the criteria has been extended by 18 months. The new version, 3.4, is valid until 2026-06-30.

    3.2 ⇛ 3.3: Adjustment and prolongation of the validity of the criteria 

    Adjustment of requirement O4 by also exempting H411 classified surfactants from the requirement. The validity of the criteria is pronlonged to 31 December, 2024 and the new version is called 3.3.

    3.1 ⇛ 3.2 Prolongation of the validity of the criteria

    The period of validity of the criteria has been extended by 18 months. In addition, the product group definition has been updated. The new version, 3.2, is valid until 2023-12-31.

    3.0 ⇛ 3.1 Prolongation of the validity of the criteria

    The period of validity of the criteria has been extended by 24 months. In addition, some instructions and requirements have been updated. The new version, 3.1, is valid until 2022-06-30.

    3.0: New criteria generation

    The new revised criteria were published on June 10th. They are valid until June 30th 2020.
