Most important issues
Nordic Ecolabelling would like to have comments on the complete criteria set, but would like to highlight the following points:
- Prohibited use of PFAS in batteries/cells (requirement O3) and casings (requirement O4).
- All licensees must now have a due diligence management system under the EU Batteries Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, and all smelters and refiners must be third-party verified for the minerals listed in Annex X and the EU Conflict Minerals Regulation (requirement O6).
- Significantly strengthened cycle-endurance levels; NiMH batteries must now reach 150% of the IEC standard (previously 75%), and Li-ion batteries must reach 85% C5 Ah (compared to 60%) and be tested at 0.5 ItA instead of 0.2 ItA (requirement O8).
- New requirement mandating a minimum of 22% recycled content within the battery (requirement O12).
